Södertälje Graffiti

Södertälje, Sweden

Yesterday I went to Södertälje Syd on the border to Stockholm. It's about 1 hour ride with the commuter from Capital city. I found some new pieces, some old. Some good and some bad. But I did find a few really nice ones that made the trip worth while.

Trångsund Graffiti

Trångsund

I took a trip to Trångsund, a suburb to Stockholm. History shows that Trångsund was one
of, if not The biggest source to the startup of the graffiti scene in Sweden. Two hischools were located in this area and most students had to take the commuter train to school.
When Style Wars were shown on TV in 84 the school and the grounds around it were quickly filled with tags, soon enough you could see graffiti pieces all over this place.

Some of the biggest names in Swedish graffiti came or went to school here in the 80s.

The Old JM Factory

The old JM factory

JM is one of the Nordic region's leading developers of housing and residential areas.
Just outside the inner city limits lies one of their old factories, this one has been closed up, abandoned. Junkies, urban explorers and graffiti artists has ransacked this building for years but time has finally caught up with them because the house just now being demolished. It will all be over within the year so if you want to explore this place, you better hurry. 2008 06 10

Eriksdal

I took a long strool today. Started out at the Teaterhögskolan, Södermalm down to Eriksdalsbadet and all the way up to Henriksdalsringen. If you'd took this walk 10 years
ago you'd have to recharge your batteries and get an extra memorycard for your camera
because this place was packed with graffiti. 2008 06 03

A true bargin

I stumbled upon this little beauty the other day. I was just walking around and saw this original sketch in the window of an all-in-all store. I asked how much they wanted for it
and the lady said, "well, how much do you wanna give for it?"
So I said..."hm, how about $5 bucks". And she said Yes!.
This is a beautiful piece by a great and somewhat famous writer of the day, so its prolly
worth a lot more and guarantee worth a lot more for sentimental value.

Cash by Cash in 1986

Back to the old school

I've gathered pictures of old graffiti from Sweden. Most of these are my own
photos but some was either sent to us or used with permission by the originator.
These are pieces from 1984-1991 with a few exceptions of later work.

Silver pieces

The expression "Silver piece" is well known in the graffiti community. It means a graffiti painting made with silver as the fill color and a heavy solid outline, often in black, blue or red.
Silver pieces came very early but at first with a white color as base. The reason why they became popular was because you could paint them fast.
Silver pieces is the precursor to throw-ups but today they are concithered
pieces (short for master piece) and often worked on more than a throw-up.
